Marseille? Magnifique!

Marseille is magnificent, but if you’re arriving by cruise ship, you’ll need to negotiate, by vehicle, through a huge industrial pot complex before you get to the heart of this city.

The city embraces a smaller harbour, where pleasure craft mingle with fishing vessels, and anglers bring in their catch for direct sale.

On a Sunday morning, it’s a bit quiet — but that’s how I like my visits to be. The carousel was just being cranked up, the cafes were putting out their tables, and the tourists were slowly joined by the late-rising locals.

A a large Ferris wheel dominates the harbourside, and nearby is a small market aimed mainly at selling souvenirs to tourists, plus a branch of the popular department store Galleries Lafayette.

The pictures tell the story better than I can. By the way, due to technical and time reasons, the pictures on this post and on other posts during my cruise holiday are only a small selection of those I have taken. Some existing posts will be augmented when I get the chance, and I’ll post extra photo galleries.
