Want to own an airline? Well you may be disappointed, but not surprised, to discover that Airbus has increased the price of its fleet from January 1 this year.
According to manufacturer’s website, after an adjustment, the entry level model, the A318, is now US$75.9 million.
From there, the A319 is $90.5m, but an extra $8.5m will get you a basic A320.
In the mid-range, you can fly away in a A330-300 for the bargain price of $259m, but the top-of-the range A380 will set you back $436.90m.
If you want some perspective on how big airline businesses are — and why flying can be expensive — note that Emirates has 92 of those superjumbos, with 10 more on order. They get a fleet discount, and some airlines lease rather than buy, but they still need very deep pockets.
Of course, if you wanted to buy one for yourself and could afford it, there’s always the problem of maintenance — and parking.
