Oman Air A330-300* business class
Abu Dhabi-Muscat-Kuala Lumpur-Singapore-KL-Muscat-Abu Dhabi
June, 2016
Yes, it’s the long way around to get from Abu Dhabi to Singapore and back, but with Oman Air it was a pleasure.
As I discovered when I flew to Bangkok recently, Oman Air has a very good business-class product. I’m happy to report that that’s not limited to the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the Thailand route. The older Airbus A330 I took to Singapore was equally well equipped and staffed.
The decor may be a little older, but the unit is comfortable and has all the amenities one needs: a lie-back seat that’s easy to sleep in, a large TV screen with a reasonable (but, it must be said, not huge) viewing selection and easy controls, clever storage solutions (including side bins on the window seats), a fine selection of western, Asian and Middle East food, good wine selections (French and New Zealand options for the whites I drank), and the attention of pleasant, professional crew.
It was also a bargain. Due to a Ramadan offer, the return flight in business class was cheaper than some airlines were charging for economy.
If that deal isn’t still available, Oman Air is usually cheaper than its Middle Eastern rivals, so you may still get a bargain — although perhaps not to Singapore. I understand that the Singapore leg is being jettisoned at the end of the year and it will become a Muscat-KL only service.
* The Abu Dhabi flights were on the smaller, less plush but still comfortable Embraer 175 aircraft. Here’s a picture of the business-class cabin:

It looks the most luxurious flight in my way of thinking. The way they are serving the food and the facilities they are giving is great.
