The future of travel

When you travel a lot, you can’t avoid the feeling that booking a trip is a one-sided affair.

At the moment, airlines, hotels, resorts, tour operators and the like offer a product at a price, and you decide to accept it or not.

But what if it were the other way round?

What if you were able to set the rules? For example, if you could say: “I want an all-inclusive, four- to five-star  experience lasting three weeks, visiting five European countries, including at least one week on a beach, and I’m prepared to pay no more than $5,000.”

Certainly, you could say that at a travel agency and let some poor sucker search through the options on your behalf.

But what if an app did it all for you?

About now, you’re expecting me to recommend a product. Well, I can’t. But if there were an app that allowed me to enter into a reverse auction on my travel experience, I’d embrace it like a long lost relative.

Over to you, Silicon Valley.
