Which city is the favourite with tourists? Well, it depends which source you believe.
Hong Kong is — again — the most popular city with tourists, according to the latest survey, which notes that London has been overtaken for second place by Bangkok.
According to the Euromonitor International rankings of most-visited cities, Singapore is fourth and Paris is fifth.
The South China Morning Post reports that Hong Kong has held the top spot since 2012, and has held on despite a 3.9 per cent decline in international travellers from 2014 to 2015.
It added that, according to the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the total number of visitors in 2016 was 26.5 million. To put that in some perspective, that’s more people than live in Australia.
However, a recent MasterCard report said that Bangkok is the world’s number-one destination, followed by London, Paris, Singapore and New York.
The best way to settle the argument, of course, is to visit them all. I have — in fact, I’ve lived in two of them — and I know which ones I like. All of them — but for different reasons.
