Followers of this site will know that I have a love-hate relationship with lists. As a journalist, I know such offering as “the 10 best …” or “20 most exciting…” or “12 cheapest..,” are popular with readers.
But, as an educated and rational person, I know that nobody is in the position to offer the best of anything, unless they’ve tried everything — and nobody has.
But, as an old romantic (more one than the other), I’m willing to concede that some people are looking for places to take their excitingly significant other, and that frequent, if not all-knowing, travellers might be able to offer some insight.
Of course, we’ll always have Paris. And Venice. And Rome. But where else ought one take the love of one’s life.
Well, according to this Telegraph story, there are 50 places. Yes, 50, of them. You can find out about them all by following the link.
Suffice it for me to say that they include a lot of the usual suspects, including some of my favourite places.
So the picks of their bunch for me (whether you’re going alone or in company) are: Barcelona, the Croatia, Los Angeles (and why not? It’s the ultimate city of dreams), New York, Thailand (yes, you can take your own partner), the Isle of Wight and Edinburgh.
Personally, I’d throw in a bit more France and Italy, Heidelberg, Fiji, some bits of eastern Europe and Sydney Harbour at sunset.
