Brisbane’s radio ratings have been released, with longtime bridesmaid Triple M consolidating its newfound lead over stablemate B105. Most interesting in this, the last survey before the official launch of Nova 106.9, is the size of the “Other” category, which has grown to 13.8 per cent. That’s twice what it was last year, suggesting many people are already sampling Nova’s slick “test” broadcasts. Combine this with the fact that Triple J – from which Nova is bound to poach listeners – has twice the audience in Brisbane than it does in Sydney, and Nova could easily launch with a 7 to 10 per cent market share without impacting on the other FM broadcasters at all. If it eats into the B105, Triple M and 97.3 audience, Nova could well launch near the top of the ratings tree.
